Independent films are produced by small production companies and they usually have a lower budget than films produced by major film studios. These films started after the Great Depression when movie theatres were corrupted but there was still a demand to continue film making. At this time, most countries did not have a strong film industry which explains the low budget and short filming time, they were not produced by famous directors and they refrained from using familiar actors. Independent films are not created to be well known but to relate more closely to the public. They lack special affects but use different techniques such as black and white.
An independent film that could influence our film is Fish Tank. The film is about a girl who's life is very simplistic so she retreats to a rebellious life of constant trouble. So when her tarty mum brings home he boyfriend for the first time, Mia finds herself getting caught up with him. He slyly charms her by encouraging her and giving her the support she has never received before, but it only led him closer to what he wants: More than just a kiss. The story line is the what we want to base our story line, but we want the protagonist to be male. We want to capture the element of the troubled and unloved teenager.
